Buy Tickets $15 $30

Take a tour through San Francisco’s history with one of its most colorful characters. Emperor Norton was a prominent businessman who lost it all on a bad investment. He responded to his failure by declaring himself “Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico.” Rather than dismissing him, San Francisco embraced him, treating him as royalty and accepting his self-created currency. Tour guide Joseph Amster incorporates his journalistic and acting talents to provide a one-of-a-kind tour, taking on the persona of Emperor Norton and introducing you to the history of the city’s most unique and interesting sites through the eyes of this larger-than-life unofficial city mascot.

Take a tour through San Francisco’s waterfront history alongside one of its most colorful characters. Emperor Norton was a prominent businessman who lost everything on a bad investment. Instead of throwing in the towel, he responded to his failure by declaring himself “Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico.” San Francisco embraced this quirky character, treating him as royalty and even accepting his self-created currency. Tour guide Joseph Amster incorporates his journalistic and acting talents to provide a one-of-a-kind tour in which he takes on the persona of Emperor Norton and introduces you to the history of the city’s most unique and interesting sites through the eyes of this larger-than-life unofficial mascot. Over the course of just under three hours, you’ll cover about two miles along the waterfront, from the historic Ferry Building to The Cannery.

Two giants of bluegrass, Del McCoury and David Grisman, take the stage at The Mountain Winery for a night of acoustic music under the stars in Saratoga. An NEA Lifetime Achievement recipient and bluegrass’ elder statesman, McCoury began his career with the father of bluegrass, Bill Monroe, in 1963 and has been keeping the music alive ever since with his sons, mandolin player Ronnie and banjo picker Rob. Over the decades, mandolinist David Grisman has carved out his own niche in acoustic music with his brand of “Dawg Music,” a blend of American folk, gypsy jazz, klezmer and Latin grooves. Along the way, he’s collaborated with Tony Rice, Jerry Garcia and Stéphane Grappelli, to name a few. Don’t miss this chance to catch two of American music’s greats, along with opening act The Travelin’ McCourys, led by Del’s boys.

Ryan Raftery in The Rise and Fall (and Rise) of Martha Stewart

Buy Tickets $35 $35

Direct from New York City, writer–performer Ryan Raftery will bring his acclaimed show, The Rise and Fall (and Rise) of Martha Stewart. From her humble beginnings in Nutley, New Jersey, to her empire-building years in Westport, Connecticut, to her highly-publicized stint in federal prison, The Rise and Fall (and Rise) of Martha Stewart tells the fascinating story of the woman who changed the way we live our lives by daring us to try harder. Set to the music of artists as varied as Beyoncé, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Adele, and Metallica, The Rise and Fall (and Rise) of Martha Stewart is a chronicle of epically blind ambition. Hailed as “a one-man musical juggernaut” (New York Daily News) and “a force of nature all his own” (Interview Magazine), Ryan Raftery is the creator of the smash-hit Anna Wintour, Andy Cohen, and Calvin Klein musicals. A native New Yorker and graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Raftery has been seen on television in Ugly Betty, What I Like About You, Malcolm in the Middle and, most memorably, on Law & Order: SVU where he warmed hearts all across America as Dennis Faber, the Amish teenager with measles. He has written eight shows, including the aforementioned Wintour, Cohen, and Klein musicals, as well as Ryan Raftery & Friends: A Solo Act, Ryan Raftery’s It Gets Worse and Ryan Raftery: King of the Jews.

Joined by musical director Christian Tamburr and his trio, longtime friends Clint and Billy will combine their musical talents to perform many of the timeless hits made famous by the master himself, including “Route 66,” “Mona Lisa” and “Nature Boy.” Clint Holmes was recently honored as a two-time 2018 Grammy nominee. He is a consummate entertainer, performer, recording artist, and one of the country’s finest vocalists. Whether he is singing selections from the Great American Songbook, contemporary classics, or stirring original jazz pieces, every performance is a one-of-a-kind mesmerizing and unforgettable experience. Billy Stritch is one of the premier singer-pianists on the New York and national jazz and cabaret scenes. A chance meeting with Liza Minnelli in March of 1991 resulted in her asking him to create vocal arrangements for the record-breaking extravaganza, Liza Stepping Out at Radio City Music Hall. From there, he traveled all over the globe as Liza’s pianist and occasional opening act. In addition to his 25-year collaboration with her, Billy recently toured with the legendary Tony Bennett as his pianist and musical director. A solo entertainer in his own right, he has performed his own shows in concert halls and nightclubs across the country.

Jamali has a plethora of gigs under his belt. He plays the Comedy Store and toured with them in the Middle East. In June 2015 he supported Jim Jefferies before a 3,500 strong Hyde Park audience. His debut hour at the Edinburgh Fringe was a total sell-out and received rave reviews.

Hi, I’m Taylor. I’m a comedian and was the second place winner season 8 of America’s Got Talent. They named me one of their 4 favorite acts of all time in their recent 10-year AGT Anniversary Special. My point is, I’m prettttty cool! I started performing stand-up comedy while I was a senior in high school in Del Mar, California. I now live in Los Angeles and travel around the world telling jokes. I’ve performed at the prestigious Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, Canada and I was the youngest comedian to ever perform on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. I’ve also appeared on MTV’s TRL, Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham, Last Call With Carson Daly, and I was a semi-finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing.

Hungry for some great theater? Moon favorite Michael Patrick Gaffney’s original one-man show, The Oldest Living Cater Waiter, offers up delicious insights into his complicated and hilarious careers as both a professional actor and a high-end waiter to the stars. Gaffney cooks up numerous characters from his past with just the right amount of sauciness, Shakespeare, and a soupçon of self-discovery. Come celebrate one man’s journey of a life in the theater. Twelve years in the making, Gaffney started writing about his experiences preparing exquisite meals and preparing numerous characters for the stage. “I don’t know which is worse: an actor’s nightmare or a waiter’s? Not surprisingly, I have them both.” He was encouraged to workshop the piece and over the last few years, Cater Waiter has been further developed and performed at SF Fringe Festival, PianoFight, Berkeley Playhouse’s Julia Morgan Theater and at ZBelow.

Leave it to the pull-no-punches, politically charged mind of John Leguizamo to dream up Kiss My Aztec!, a fresh, irreverent musical comedy take on the arrival of the conquistadors. Elizabethan dialect collides with modern slang set to a mashup of salsa, hip-hop and funk for this tale of an unlikely pair of Aztecs who mount a scrappy uprising against their Spanish oppressors — and somehow get entangled in the dysfunctional bickering of the Spanish viceroy’s family. If you loved Leguizamo’s Latin History for Morons (nominated for Tony’s Best Play), you won’t want to miss his latest work at Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Stephen Sondheim’s Passion

Buy Tickets $19 - $25 $40

1863, Italy: In a remote military outpost, a handsome army captain, separated from his beautiful (but married) mistress, is forced to reevaluate his thoughts on love when he becomes the object of the obsessive, unrelenting passions of Fosca, his Colonel’s plain, sickly cousin. From the brilliant mind of Stephen Sondheim (Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods) comes this emotionally charged chamber musical, which has steadily earned a reputation as one of Stephen Sondheim’s most deeply emotional works. Intimate and erotic, it explores the line between love and obsession, power and manipulation. Now Passion makes its long-awaited San Francisco debut at Custom Made’s intimate theater, which has had recent hits with Into the Heights, Man of La Mancha and Chess (Best Production, Bay Area Critic’s Circle). Don’t miss the opportunity to see this rarely produced masterpiece.

The Drowsy Chaperone: A Tony-Winning Musical

Buy Tickets $20 - $37.50 $40 - $50

Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Jazz Age musical, featuring one hilarious, show-stopping song and dance number after another. With the houselights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and offers to take the audience on a delightful journey through the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical, The Drowsy Chaperone. As the record plays, the show comes to life inside his apartment, including two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and a “drowsy” (i.e., intoxicated) chaperone. Add in an amazing score and remarkable tap dancing and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight. Hailed by New York Magazine as “The Perfect Broadway Musical,” The Drowsy Chaperone is a masterful meta-musical, poking fun at all the tropes that characterize the musical theatre genre. Don’t miss this show at San Francisco’s Shelton Theater.

Big: The Musical — A Dazzling Stage Show

Buy Tickets $19 - $28 $25 - $40

One of the most beloved films of the ‘80s, the Tom Hanks comedy classic is now a heartfelt musical fantasy. Josh Baskin is 12 years old. He wishes that his mom would stop hugging him in public, that he didn’t have to take out the garbage, and that Cynthia Benson, the girl next door, would notice him. When she passes him over for an older boy, Josh makes a wish to be big … and wakes up the next morning in the body of a 30-year-old man. Taking off to the big city, Josh now must navigate the unknown world of adults — a world of jobs, girlfriends and disgustingly fancy foods — as he and his best friend seek out a way to undo the spell that caused him to grow. Filled with Zoltar machines, floor pianos and a dazzling, pop-filled score, Big: The Musical reminds us that there’s always room to be a child at heart. Get in on all the fun at the Berkeley Playhouse.

Based on the cult classic 1989 film, Heathers the Musical is a rowdy, guilty-pleasure musical which takes an unflinching look at the joy and anguish of high school. Westerberg High is ruled by a shoulder-padded, scrunchie-wearing posse: Heather, Heather and Heather, the hottest and cruelest girls in all of Ohio. Misfit Veronica Sawyer, who hustles her way into this teenage power trifecta, discovers that life in the Teflon crowd isn’t all that it seems. All bets are off when a handsome stranger, JD, plans to put the Heathers in their place — six feet under. So… Are you in, or are you out? The darkly delicious satire comes to Fort Mason Center’s Cowell Theater in San Francisco.

The ukulele has come a long way in recent years — from a hipster novelty item to a serious musical instrument, and much of that is thanks to virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro. Rolling Stone has declared him a musical hero. He’s drawn comparisons to Miles Davis and Jimi Hendrix. He’s even performed his nimble-fingered mix of jazz, surf rock and pop for the Queen of England. From traditional Hawaiian tunes to covers of the Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” one listen and it’s not hard to see why he’s racked up millions of YouTube views, released more than a dozen albums — including his latest, The Greatest Day — and jammed with everyone from Yo-Yo Ma to Bette Midler. Now you can catch the renowned uke wizard live in concert at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga.
